The girls took home an award for Vocal Collaboration of the Year for ‘Ain’t Gonna Change For You’ with Troy Cassar–Daley. This is the McClymonts fifth Golden Guitar Award.
Their latest album 'Wrapped Up Good' was recorded in Nashville, the album has harnessed the talents of Taylor Swift’s producer, Nathan Chapman and the producer of Chaos and Bright Lights, Adam Anders.
We interviewed Brooke (far right):
B&L: What is it like working so closely as sisters?
Brooke: It’s great when something great happens that we all get to enjoy it together; and if we get a little angry at each other we can tell each other how we feel cos we get over it straight away! There are lots of pros to working with your sisters
B&L: Do you ever have personality clashes?
Brooke: Sometimes, but like I said before, we get on with each other so well that we can usually get over whatever is bothering us.
B&L: Have you always been musical?
Brooke: Always been musical. I forced my sisters when I was a pup to sit down and listen to my original songs and used to make up shows for the whole family! Poor buggers!
B&L: What made you decide to form a group?
Brooke: We always knew we wanted to one day sing together, but never had the chance! And when Sam won the Golden Guitar for best new talent in 2006 we got up on stage and sang backing vocals for her. Then straight after that we had a record deal for the 3 of us!
B&L: Have you always loved country music?
Brooke: Dad was a huge country music fan and listener, so we were brought up on it from day dot.
B&L: Do you think country music is becoming more popular with younger people? If so, what would you attribute this to?
Brooke: I think it is! With the likes of Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers and Taylor Swift paving the way, it’s really appealing to a younger crowd. The funny thing is most songs you hear were probably originally a country song, but with modern technology you can change it into a pop song and vice versa!
B&L: Tell us about your new album, Wrapped Up Good...
Brooke: It’s a positive feel good rockin' no inhibitions album. Basically it’s a reflection on where us three girls are at in our lives, which right now is really happy! That’s probably really boring but it’s the truth!
B&L: What was it like recording in Nashville?
Brooke: Absolutely amazing! We learnt so much whilst recording the 1st album and 2nd album. The craftsmanship and professional musicians we worked with continuously blow your mind and the way they can hear a song you've written on tape with a guitar and turn it into a monster track is pretty special! You never stop learning whilst you're there.
B&L: What other artists do you love right now?
Brooke: I have started to pull out all my old favourites that I used to listen to when I was a kid, like Nancy Griffith, Iris Dement and Dolly Parton. I’m re-living my youth!
B&L: How would you describe your fashion style?
Brooke: Pretty plain. I usually wear what suits my body type and I have a weird one. So I’m generally not very fashion savvy and keeping up with the world. Its more what size I am at the time!
B&L: Do you prefer touring or recording?
Brooke: I like both. You can't compare really, they are so different.
B&L: What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever said to you?
Brooke: It’s not so weird - but pretty funny. A fan thought I was Kasey Chambers and wanted a photo, so I stood there and pretended I was her! I felt terrible, but I didn't have the heart to tell her I wasn't Kasey. I made her day!
B&L: Do you have any advice for those wanting to form a music group?
Brooke: Just believe in what you are doing and make sure you’re all on each other's side whatever the outcome is. And just be yourself and enjoy the ride. It’s fun!
B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?
Brooke: When things can be looking very bleak and hard to get through, we have some sort of power to see the positive. Well, that’s me anyway! And I love that trait I have. And also we get to wear some amazing shoes!
