Twenty year old Shea Fisher was born in Portland Victoria in April 1988. Shea has an amazing story. As well as being a recording artist, both in Australian and now in the US as well, Shea is a champion rodeo rider.
Shea’s new self titled album features a mix of pop and mainstream pop/country tracks – it’s not a common mix and the album is quite unique. The common denominator throughout the album are the themes and overall vibe which consistently touch on relationships, break ups, summer holidays and everything else that young girls experience and deal with.
This month we asked Shea about her new album and country life:
B&L: How would you describe your new album, Shea?
Shea: This new album is a mix of pop and mainstream pop/country. The common denominator throughout the album are the themes and overall vibe which touches on relationships, break ups, summer holidays and everything else that young girls and guys experience and deal with.
This album is relevant to people my age, it is fun, upbeat, youthful and fresh. I have put my heart and soul into this album, I'm very proud of it.
B&L: What was it like getting a record deal?
Shea: It was a very surreal experience signing the record deal in USA. All my Christmas’ came at once. Just imagine dreaming of something from when you were a little girl then it finally coming true.
I was over the moon. I also think getting my Australian record deal was as exciting at the time... I have been a very lucky girl the past few years; it has been such a crazy whirlwind.
B&L: What is the first single from the album, Don't Chase Me all about?
Shea: This song is about a guy who insists on chasing a girl but who has other possible love interests on the back burner. This girl says look if you don't want me and only me, don't bother chasing me, she isn't going to be strung along in some sort of game. It is a girl empowering song, and it is very relevant to people my age.
B&L: Tell us about your Rodeo riding...
Shea: From the time I was born I have been around rodeos. I entered my first barrel race when I was 3, won my first barrel race when I was 7 and won my first Australian title when I was 9. I also won many other Australian titles and had the chance to win titles while living in USA for two years.
My mum is an Australian barrel racing champion and my dad 8 times Australian champion in Bull Riding. Rodeo was something that came very naturally to me; I had great parents to teach me from a young age.
B&L: How do you like to spend your free time?
Shea: Like every normal girl I love hanging out with my friends, going to the beach and relaxing at home. I think when you spend so much time out on the road it is nice when you go home to just relax and sleep in your own bed.
B&L: Have you always loved country music?
Shea: I love all genres of music; my iPod is full of so many different artists from Coldplay to Lady GaGa to country and even older music from the past. I have been a massive music fan from the time I was 10 years old. Once I bought my first album I was completely hooked.
B&L: What is the secret to balancing a hectic career and relationships with friends and family?
Shea: I just class myself as a normal girl with a really cool job. At times you get so busy you don't get much time to talk to friends and family but it's nice knowing that they are there for you no matter what. I spend a lot of time on the phone while I’m away speaking with those people who are close to me.
B&L: What was it like moving from Texas to Queensland in 2000?
Shea: It was a big transition for me; I was just starting high school when I returned home. There were lots of things I had to get use to again... I was happy to return though. There is nothing more beautiful then Australia, it is an amazing country.
B&L: Do you have any advice for teens wanting a music career?
Shea: I believe that anything is possible no matter how big or how small your dream is. No matter what anyone says, don't let anyone tell you that you can't live out your dreams. Stick at it and you can make it! If you fall, get back up again and keep going. Whatever you want to do is possible if you really want to make it happen.
B&L: What’s next for Shea?
Shea: I have a really big next 6 months ahead of me. I will be in Australia for a while promoting my new album which is now available in stores, then I head over to USA to start the process over there.
I'd say I will be spending lots of time on the road. It will be busy but it is such an exciting time in my life.
